High-five to Vodacom’s 2GB/month broadband offering

Competition is good, after Cell C launched their 2GB and 5GB/month broadband offering last year, Vodacom (finally) responded this month with a similar 2GB/month for R149/month option.

It is only available on 12 month contract, but you get the easy-to-install 7.2Mbps USB modem and the backing of an established national network. The offer runs until 31 July and offers the additional night-owl service of a ‘free’ 2GB/month between 12am and 5am. Unfortunately this is a special on new contracts, so no way you can get the same data prices on your existing contract.

This didn’t deter us,  we picked up one for the office (as a backup device) on our existing contract, and had an opportunity today of testing it out when our Telkom DSL line’s failed…

In short it works really well, and provides a very stable and fast internet connection. Unfortunately we went through 1GB fast (and only one part of the office used it for the day!), so as a backup solution, it should only be used for short timeframes/outages.

For individuals, such as estate agents, this is currently the best mobile broadband offering money can buy (in South Africa), and matches Cell C’s current offering.  And if you are not constantly on high-bandwidth sites such as Youtube, it shoud last you the whole month.

Now if only Vodacom can match Cell C’s 5GB/month offering…

K4504 USB modem for only R149 per month on MyGig 2 Standard.
